The photo on the left is how it was taken with Instagram, the one on the right is what happens when you apply a filter to it, re-upload, apply a new filter, and so on. (via What happens when you apply every available Instagram filter to one photo? - The Next Web)

WHY WHY WOULD YOU DO THIS.  BIT LEVEL PRESERVATION OF ORIGINALS.  EVERYTHING WILL BE INSTAGRAMED. OR SOMETHING

This has been your morning dose of Digital Preservation Panic.  Please go about your day, worrying about stuff that you’ll probably have to deal with in the next 5 years at the expense of doing actual work.

Not actually what my day is like

Looking through the repository referrals

Ok, we got referred not only by google, yahoo and various international search engines, but also a bunch of scam sites, a few porn sites and a bunch of adult friend finder related sites.  Oh, and my personal favorite:  DEVILFINDER.COM.

So, um, I don’t know what this says about our scholarly repository visitors, but I think I’m going to send this data to our paraprofessionals for clean up before I present it to other people.

The virtual observatory is a data discovery tool and is international, collaborative, distributed computer network.

While vo architecture looks unique, it seems to be similar to Oais’ model.

Apparently data management also requires better generators of power.

And metadata of course.

Omg fucking petabytes.

I love info science.

Learning about astronomy data. Petabytes of data.

PETABYTES, omg.

The food is pretty damn delicious FYI.

Bacon egg and cheese buns ftw.

I’ll be at the UNT Open Access Symposium today.

I shall report back.  Probably on open access, definitely about the food.
